Attorney Profiles

Claire Pettrone is an attorney who works exclusively in the area of health law. Ms. Pettrone holds a masters degree in nursing, and prior to her legal career, she was a certified pediatric/neonatal nurse practitioner. This collective experience has proved invaluable in representing health care providers with their legal needs.

Ms. Pettrone represents physicians and hospital medical staff in various practice management areas, including employment, Medicare and Medicaid issues, peer review, managed care, credentialing, medical staff issues, bylaws, rules and regulations, employment contract negotiations (physical employment contracts and medical employment contracts), and federal and state regulatory agency compliance issues.

At the Georgetown University School of Nursing she was the coordinator for the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program. She was responsible for developing and implementing a graduate program for master's prepared registered nurses in conjunction with Georgetown University Hospital.

Ms. Pettrone graduated from the George Mason University School of Law with the degree of Juris Doctor, from the Catholic University School of Nursing with the degree of Master of Science in Nursing and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, from the Georgetown University School of Nursing with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing and from St. Mary's College and the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Ms. Pettrone serves on various committees including the Health Law Council of the Virginia Bar Association.

Ms. Pettrone has given numerous lectures including the American College of Ob/GYN, the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Urology, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Virginia State Bar's continuing legal education program on topics ranging from physician employment issues to fraud and abuse.
